They then attempt to regain their threatened or their lost needs, so if they&#8217;ve been deprived of belonging they will seek out another group to belong to or conform more to another group; if they&#8217;ve lost a sense of control, they&#8217;ll try to exert control. But then if they are repeatedly exposed to ostracism day in and day out they finally just sort of accept or internalise those lost needs and they become alienated and despondent and helpless.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They might also have a breakdown. I read somewhere that most people would rather be insulted and abused than ostracised.
