Getting Foundation 5, the popular CSS responsive framework by Zurb, to work for IE8

Bootstrap and Foundation are currently two of the most popular responsive CSS frameworks, and I personally prefer Foundation 5, but was so disappointed when I found out that it wasn’t recommended for IE8. Quite a few people still use Windows XP, and with it, the browser IE8. Wondered, was there any way to make it work sufficiently well for them? Some say to use Foundation 3. That is an option, but did a lot of research and this is what I came up with so far. This seems to work for me and it may also work for you.

Add this between the head tags.. (note that it says IE and not just IE8 or lt IE9)

<!–[if IE]>
<script src=”js/html5shiv.min.js”></script>
<script src=”js/respond.min.js”></script>
<![endif]–>

Then add this before the </body> tag, replacing your current jquery with jquery 1.11.x

<script src=”js/jquery-1.11.1.min.js”></script>
<script src=”js/modernizr.min.js”></script>

And here are the scripts that you’ll need to add to your js folder..

html5shiv.min.js
respond.min.js

jquery-1.11.1.min.js
modernizr.min.js

Note that you need to use jQuery 1.11.x because jQuery 2.x does not support IE8. Then check to see if the scripts are working on different browsers.

And that’s it. Hope this helps.
